Dear Linguists! Beginners and experienced translators!
If you are reading this page, then you have decided to embark on a language profession. You can find out who we are and what we do on the pages of our company website.
Why did Alba Longa translation company decide to start its own translation school?
The answer is simple: there is a lack of professionals in the industry. Over the years we have acquired a vast experience in highly specialized translation work. We are longing to share this experience with you and we believe that it will help you to work and to establish yourself as an expert in the market of translation services. Today there is no other company offering studies of a similar type— basic professional and marketing training sine qua non from professionals operating in the translation market.
Graduates of language institutions constantly send us their completed tests and work samples where they keep making the same mistakes, from the wrong notation of figures in a foreign language and negligence of formatting to serious terminological and semantic mistakes.
At least 80% of the candidates completing a test are not aware of the following facts:
— In numerals, the Russian ‘0,5’ translates as ‘0.5’ only with the decimal point (no comma) and ‘10,000’ (ten thousand) has to have a comma.
— the formatting of the original file can be copied and pasted in the translation with just a few simple clicks (see the video);
— the spelling in MS Word for English or Russian can be adjusted automatically;
— all of the numerals (or cyrillic letters) can be found in the text automatically, so you can easily find out whether any part of text was left untranslated;
— what simplified technical English is and why it’s necessary.
—how to pronounce correctly (and consequently transcribe into other languages Jiangxi (/Tsiangsi/ and not Djiangsi/);
— if you need to install and learn autocad for translating dwg illustrations (hint – not really necessary);
— how to save your time and effort (and therefore money) by means of CAT tools. And this is not an empty phrase because the repeatability of texts is their essential feature and searching, copying and pasting every word manually is not the best way of spending your time;
— where and how to look for good translation projects;
— how to make the deal with your customer conform legally: tax, financial and legal aspects of the freelancer’s work on today’s global market.
If you do not know the answer to any of these questions, then we are sure that you will find our courses very useful.
